"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."
Winston Churchill 1871-1965
Luke 12 verses 6 and 7: (The Message) What's the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. And he pays even greater attention to you, down to the last details - even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries.

Isaiah 30 verse 19: (New International Version) O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. 20: Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21: Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.' 22: Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, 'Away with you!' 23: He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful. In that day your cattle will graze in broad meadows.'
Matthew 18 verses 18 to 20: (The Message) Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is a yes in heaven; a no on earth is a no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there.
Psalm 34 verse 10: (New Living Translation) Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.
Proverbs 23 verses 4 to 6: (The Message) Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich; restrain yourself! Riches disappear in the blink of an eye; wealth sprouts wings and flies off into the wild blue yonder.
Psalm 139 verses 13 to 16: (The Message) Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; you know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.
Luke 12 verses 6 and 7: (The Message) What's the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. Matthew 6 verses 25 to 34: 25 (New Living Translation) That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 So don't worry about these things, saying, 'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.
Jeremiah 29 verse 11: (New International version) 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'
Romans 5 verses 3 to 6: (The Message) There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

God's Plan
Some things are beyond planning.
And life doesn't always turn out as planned.
You don't plan for a broken heart.
You don't plan for a failed business venture.
You don't plan for an adulterous husband
or a wife who wants you out of her life.
You don't plan for an autistic child.
You don't plan for spinsterhood.
You don't plan for a lump in your breast.
You plan to be young forever.
You plan to climb the corporate ladder.
You plan to be rich and powerful.
You plan to be acclaimed and successful.
You plan to conquer the universe.
You plan to fall in love - and be loved forever.
You don't plan to be sad.
You don't plan to be hurt.
You don't plan to be broke.
You don't plan to be betrayed.
You don't plan to be alone in this world.
You plan to be happy. You don't plan to be shattered.
Sometimes if you work hard enough, you can get what you want.
But MOST times, what you want and what you get are two different things.
We, mortals, plan. But so does God in the heavens.
Sometimes, it is difficult to understand God's plans especially when His plans are not in consonance with ours.
Often, when God sends us crisis, we turn to Him in anger. True, we cannot choose the cross that God wishes us to carry, but we can carry that cross with courage knowing that God will never abandon us nor send something we cannot cope with.
Sometimes, God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes, He breaks our heart to make us whole.
Sometimes, God allows pain so we can be stronger.
Sometimes, God sends us failure so we can be humble.
Sometimes, God allows illness so we can take better care of ourselves. Sometimes, God takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything He gave us.
Make plans, but understand that we live by God's grace.

If one considers the magnificence of God's creation and believe God's word, that says that not even a hair will fall from our heads without Him knowing about it, we can not ignore the fact that God loves us, just like we are. This fact, being the central theme of "More than a million Canaries" is the greatest Miracle of all time.

In South Africa, and thru-out the world, financial pressure and need is causing fear and stress. Thru greed our world is collapsing as we know it, and the only way to make sense of this is to go back to the Word, to bend our knees for our Living God, and to pray for His merciful guidance. Martin's book tells the story of this gripping fear, and how a man overcame it through his Christian faith. A book to share and recommend to all you know!

Comments from a Church Leader in South Africa
Dutch Reform Church Moreletapark Pretoria
"The timing of this book could not be better. Many are struggling with financial problems and difficult decisions. Some are on the brink of sequestration. Some will seek advice from other people and rely on their wisdom. Others feel they have prayed in vain and that God has forgotten them.
This is the testimony of a man who walked that road and now has a message of victory and hope. In the face of seemingly hopeless situations and unmanageable events, he discovered God's majesty, loving fatherhood and almighty power to overcome any obstacles. You will share his trails and tribulations and discover how God strengthened his faith and trust, enhancing their personal relationship. God is still doing miracles.
May God lift you up and change your life through this book. May you experience His eternal blessing in your life."
Rev Dirkie van der Spuy - Moreletapark
